A slip dresses is a type of dress that closely resembles an undergarment. Because of this, I actually felt very silly when I put one on for the first time. Especially a black one! But I started to see them in store after store and finally decided to play around with different ways to wear them so they didn’t feel so much like underwear!
Today I’m sharing with you the 5 ways that I style a slip dress. These are mostly casual but can always be dressed up with the right shoe or jewelry. I’ve come to love this style so much because of it’s versatility.
knot the bottom
The first way is just to knot the bottom. Choose one side, grab a chunk of the fabric and just roll it into a knot. It’s just that simple. I love this because it adds a little extra detail and makes the dress slightly more casual. I pared it with sandals because I was in Arizona at the time and it was soooo hot. But also very cute with booties and a jacket for a more Fall look!
belt it
Next up is another super easy look. This one is just belted with a braided leather belt. You can use the same size as you would with your jeans — just loop around the extra and tuck it in. I like the dimension it adds to the belting.
throw on a jacket
Layers are your friend with slip dresses. Throw over a cropped jacket and some booties for an easy and effortless look. I love denim because of the contrast in material but you could also do leather moving into fall. Lots of layered jewelry is also fun. These dresses are so simple that you can almost do anything!
layer a sweater
One of my favorite ways to style a slip dress is with a sweater. I kept the belt on for an added layer, but you don’t have to — just knot the sweater up to give you the same silhouette. You can also pull off this style with a t-shirt instead. This look is perfect for Fall because you can layer on the sweater when you are cold, but take it off and still be styled!
dress it up
Last up, I layered a cropped lace top over the dress and paired it with fringe booties. I was trying to keep it more casual but if you are looking for a dressier option, just swap out the booties for heels. This would be a perfect brunch or shower look!
So tell me, which was your favorite way?
