an unforgettable bridal shower

I’m not a huge fan of showers. There I said it. Traditionally they are held at brunch time on a weekend and consist of playing terribly uncomfortable games, eating dry tea sandwiches with mimosas, and watching the guest of honor open presents for about two hours. No offense, but this is not my idea of fun.

So when it came time for my bridal shower, I really didn’t want to make people go through all that. Although I almost declined the offer to have one at all (I said almost), I decided I would end up regretting not having that experience - all my family and friends coming to celebrate me and the new adventure I was starting. Therefore, my best friend took what she knew about my hatred of showers, and threw me the most unforgettable bridal shower.

First, the event was held during a “happy hour” time - it started at 4pm on a Saturday. The invitation was navy blue with white flowers (gorgeous) and was themed as a garden party. She had everyone come dressed in floral prints, which I definitely gave her a hard time about (I never like to be told what to wear to a party 🙊), but it was so fun when everyone was together and made for some super cute photos. It was held in my mom’s backyard, which if you know anything about my mom you know that backyard is to die for. She did not pass on her green thumb to me and I’m still sad about it.

The food was incredible; there was everything from homemade venison sausages to In-n-Out Burger french fries. Yea I said it. In-n-Out Fries!! For beverages, there was beer and wine of course, but also two different punches and a margarita. Options are always good 💁🏼 The first punch was a mixture of Jardesca, St. Germain, sparkling wine and mixed berries which was delightful (and definitely snuck up on you if you know what I mean). The second was this strawberry lemonade vodka punch that was the most delicious thing in the world. I wish I had one right now as I’m writing this. She made the strawberry lemonade from scratch, need I say more?

We did play two games, but they didn’t involve toilet paper or unspeakable words (but I am really good at that game). The first was mad libs; you know the one where one person asks for a noun, verb or adjective without giving the other person any context and then you get a super interesting, and mostly humorous, story at the end? The other game was a form of how well do you know the bride. My best friend had asked Jamie twenty questions about me before the shower and the guests at the shower were given a sheet of paper to answer those same questions. Then, I had to get up and answer them too. The twist: if I didn’t answer the same way Jamie did, I had to stick a piece of bubblegum in my mouth! Well, let’s just say I could barely talk by the end of it!

There was no present opening. So for those of you that enjoy watching someone open presents, I’m sorry I didn’t do it. But for me, not only did it give me anxiety to think about having to do that in front of 60 people (yea it was a big shower), but it also did not sound like fun to sit through...especially with that many people!

So we just hung out and drank, talked and laughed and drank. That punch was definitely the hit of the night. Did I tell you how delicious it was? 😉

ps: for those of you who's showers I have attended, please do not think I hated being there. I loved celebrating you and being a part of your adventure and I would never miss it for the world.
