I think Christmas is probably my favorite holiday. I love the decorations, all the baking, I love to wrap presents, and I love all the festive treats. This Christmas hot chocolate board is perfect for a night in or a group get-together. Not only will the kids love it, but the adults will too! There’s something for everyone here.

I cheated a little on this board and didn’t make a single thing on my own 🙊. There I said it. I bought everything. The good news there though is that you can too! This board is so dang easy because there is zero prep involved. I think it took me maybe 30 minutes to make it, and that was while trying to record how to make it!

First, I have to talk about this new board I just got. It’s a metal tray that can be used for both snack boards and home decor. It’s called the Feast Platter from Crate and Barrel and I just love the hammered metal. I think I’ll be using this for a lot of boards in the future! It’s also easy to transport because of the handles, plus it has a short edge around the sides that keeps everything in.

The mugs also deserve a mention here because they are so dang cute. I actually got them last year from Sur la Table and I wish I had gotten a few more! Although the exact ones aren’t available anymore, I did find almost identical holiday mugs at Target (also where I got all the goodies for the board — one stop shop 😉)! This Santa Mug is only $5!

I’ll list below all the ingredients for the board but I basically visited the seasonal section of Target and bought everything that could be used for hot chocolate or eaten with hot chocolate.

So, now let’s assemble the hot chocolate board! I put together a short video you can watch on Instagram Reels, plus I’ll write it all out for those that prefer reading over watching. I always start with the largest items first. In this case, that’s your mugs and small white bowl for the hot chocolate mix. Then work your way down in size, so you have frosted cookies, ginger sandwich cookies (theses were actually from Trader Joe’s but Target has similar ones), chocolate covered pretzel rods, and Christmas sugar cookies.

Next, fill in the mugs and let it overflow onto the board. I started with the gingerbread men cookies inside the nutcracker mug. Note, these don’t come with icing on them so I took a tube of white icing and outlined a few of the ones that were going to lay on top (actually if I’m being completely honest here, my best friend Tanya did the icing work 😝). If you’d like, you can do them all, but since you really only see the few on top I didn’t think it was necessary. #lazyaf. Then, the mini marshmallows went into the Santa mug — you can’t have hot chocolate without marshmallows!

Working our way down in size, you’ll add the Smashmellow holiday peppermint marshmallows next and then the chocolate covered pretzels and chocolate caramel candies. The reindeer and Santa hat marshmallows were placed next. These are a slightly larger item, but since they are on a stick I waited until I had somewhere to stick it into.

Up next are the small Hershey’s kisses and candy bells. These are great filler items and you can place them anywhere on the board that has a hole. Holiday colored M&Ms would be cute to use too! And lastly, add your hot chocolate mix to the bowl and include a little scoop or measuring spoon so it’s easy to fill up a mug!

Finally, the same rule applies for this board as a meat and cheese one — fill, fill fill. Make sure everything is piled high and cover as many holes that you can.

Your turn! I would love to see your boards so if you post them, remember to use #cerriouslyimadeit so I can follow along.

tools

  • Board or Platter — like I mentioned, this hammered metal tray is going to be a new favorite, but you can use any platter or serving tray that you have!

  • Small Bowls — this set from Williams Sonoma comes with 4 bowls and I used one of them to hold the hot chocolate mix.

  • Christmas Themed Mugs — the exact ones I used were from Sur la Table last year, but Target has some cute ones too.

  • Measuring Spoon — I used a coffee scoop, but the tablespoon from this set would be way cuter!
