the nordstrom anniversary sale and why you should care

You have probably been seeing a lot of people post (and talk) about the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale. And by a lot, I mean every single fashion friend or blogger you follow. When that sale catalog comes in the mail, we become like a 5-year-old at Christmas time circling everything we want to buy and sharing it with the world. Well, this year they actually didn’t make a print catalog and went straight to allowing everyone to preview the sale online. This was actually great because it allows you to “wishlist” everything you want to purchase when the sale finally opens. So, what is it and why is everyone so excited?
what is it?
Basically, the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale is the store’s biggest sale of the year offering deep discounts for a limited time. During the sale, you can find everything from Tory Burch to Steve Madden at a discount – and not only stuff for summer, but new fall merchandise too! This isn't a sale that is trying to clear out last years leftovers; these are new arrivals and prices will go back up to full price after the sale ends. Think Black Friday, but in August. And yes, I just said Tory Burch!
when is it?
The Nordstrom Anniversary Sale was started as a way to boost sales in one of the slowest shopping times of the year. This year the sale starts August 19th and runs through August 30th; but they open the sale early to specific groups of people. Depending on your status, you could potentially shop starting August 4th! You can find out your Nordstrom status here.
what to buy?
The discounts you can expect to see are amazing and items will go fast. I repeat, items will go fast. You can find Ugg boots for $70 off, or a Vince coat marked down 40%. But don’t get me wrong, just because it’s on sale doesn’t mean you need to buy it. It’s so easy to get swept up in the excitement, get a little fear of missing out (fomo for those of you in the know) and buy anything and everything. Don’t do that. Take an inventory of your closet and determine what you need for the rest of the year and into next.
This is a great time to buy investment pieces. Need a new leather jacket? Buy it during this sale! Have you always wanted a cashmere sweater? You’ll find some half off!
Other great departments for sales are shoes (brands like Sam Edelman, Frye, and Hunter to name a few) outerwear, and beauty (think Laura Mercier, Bobbi Brown, Chanel, even Drybar and Yves Saint Laurent).
Jeans and Denim is another great department to shop during the sale. FRAME, rag & bone, and Paige brands are all discounted!
what am i shopping for?
Pajamas — the Moonlight Pajamas are my favorite style ever. I tell everyone looking for new pjs to buy these; they are so soft you’ll never want to wear anything else. They come in shorts and pants options and also make a great gift. Grab a pair on sale while you can.
Booties – I live in these during the fall and winter so I always like to add a new pair (or two 😉) to my wardrobe each year. Plus most are under $!00 so done and done.
Home — this is my first time shopping Nordstrom Home and I found so many cute things! From Barefoot Dreams blankets to gorgeous framed wall art, they have all the decor to refresh your space.
